Recently, several of my patients have asked me who can carry out tooth whitening. This was prompted by a recent series of advertisements in the Bath media, where a nutritionist has started to offer tooth whitening. The answer is that only dentally qualified personnel can carry out this dental procedure and it is illegal for anyone else to do so. The General Dental Council (GDC), who maintain the standards of dentistry in the UK to protect the public, have clearly stated that tooth whitening is a dental procedure and as such under the Dentists Act, can only be carried out by suitably qualified people. Go to http://www.gdc-uk.org/General+public/Tooth+Whitening/ for more information.
The main concern is that on rare occasions, tooth whitening can cause damage to the the teeth and gums. Non-dentists just do not have the ability or experience to diagnose problems that may be excerbated by the whitening procedure. After all it takes five years of dental school to train to practice dentistry. Tooth whitening is a cosmetic procedure, however it is also a dental one. I would encourage anyone who is considering whitening their teeth to consult their own dentist. Too many horror stories come out of people seeking procedures by unqualified operators where there is little or no come-back if something goes wrong. It is a question of trust. Who is better able to provide the best care; a dentist or someone who thinks the tooth whitening might make a nice profitable sideline?

Really important that the general public are warned about this – just put it out on Twitter
Great blogpost, didn’t thought it would be so awesome when I looked at your title with link.
I think I tried this a while back. It brings back bad memories. Nothing good seems to happen the first time. How long did it take you? I look forward to your next post.
some people have had a bad experience due to a poor whitening system. As the whitening gel appears to be the same in most systems the difference is the fitting of the whitening trays. We use a system that insures that the gel is held against the teeth and as such works much more efficiently
You have the wisdom of the aged and the relevance of youth. What a great combination. It allows you to be sensitive and strong.
This blog is very helpful for me to know the exact product.
Thanks
Excellent article. i’ll come back next Sunday to read some more. Please keep posting.
thanks !! very helpful post!
Great post!
Hi, great information! I’ve used this technique a number of times already and i’ve had great results. All dentists should take note of this. Fast with a good end result, what more could you want? Thanks.
Found this post on Google – Cheers for that! I have been doing a lot of research on this topic and you’ve covered a few things I wasn’t aware prior to reading your article.
Thank you for the info. What is zirconium? Does it have any metal in it? Advantages, disadvantages with the material
Zirconium is a ceramic and as such metal free. Its main advantage is that it has great aesthetic properties which make it very useful for dental restorations. However it must be of a certain thickness that can sometimes mean that metal is better as it can be as strong in thinner sections.
