A 45 year old man presented having recently lost his upper right deciduous canine. He was obviously distressed by this. However the situation was made worse by the fact that his daughter was to be married soon. The 3D scan revealed good bone volume and this enabled planning for an implant. This was placed and immediately restored with an abutment and temporary crown leaving a very happy man and his family. -

This 62 year old man was referred to the practice with a failing upper right central incisor. Image 2a clearly shows the vertical root fracture and absence of root filling with apical infection. The scan enabled planning of extraction and immediate implant placement with guided bone regeneration labially (2b & 2c). An incidental finding of the scan was an apical infection around previously symptom-free tooth 14(2d). The slice revealed a lack of root filling and area around both buccal and palatal apices. A plan was made to remove the post from the buccal root and to root fill, replacing the post and crown. -

This 73 year old female arrived at the practice following a catastrophic failure of her upper bridge. Careful positioning of the scanner allowed the majority of the maxilla to be captured showing grossly broken down teeth and undiagnosed retained root fragments. Root fragments such as 24 would have been difficult to see on a conventional OPG (3a) and slices of teeth such as 23 (3b) shows that once the root has been extracted there would be a large bone deficiency in this area. The 3D images enabled detailed planning of this very complex case that would involve loss of all the remaining roots and block bone grafting in the upper left and right canine regions followed by placement of 8 implants to support fixed bridgework.
